Full Length Headers For 96 Chevy

Where can I buy a pair of full length headers for a 96 Chevy K1500 4x4? Also, will I have any problems with O2 sensors or MAP sensors if I install full length headers? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Full Length Headers For 96 Chevy

Unless you plan on opening the headers for drag strip or other off-road use, save your money. In most places in the USA you will have to fabricate a custom y-pipe to plumb the exhaust into a single catalytic converter. The O2 and other sensor bungs can be welded into the y-pipe.

First problem is, the full length headers push everything back a couple of feet in the chassis, so there may not be enough room for the cat and muffler before you hit the rear axle.

Second problem is there are NO full-length headers that are tested and approved for smog. So you'll have to reinstall the stock system every couple of years or stop registering the truck.

Long or short headers add very little street performance over cast manifolds when run through a muffler or mufflers. They DO look and sound very cool. Suggest you look at a complete cat-forward system with shortys and y-pipe such as Edelbrock TES.

Re: Full Length Headers For 96 Chevy

lol move to nebraska and you can have straight pipes and rev it right next to a cop and he wont even think of it lol. the headers prolly wont do much for a stock engine like said by someone before. if you have some fairly beefy mods, like a cam and or cylinder heads swap, then it would be something to look into...
