Front 4X4 axel not engaging

Hello,

I have a 1996 Yukon and the front axel just stopped locking in. I put it in 4 hi and the light on the floor says it is in gear but the front wheels are not pulling. It has been below zero here and at first i thought it may have caused a problem but it warmed up and is still not working. Any one have an idea what would cause this to happen???

Thanks for any help, Al

Re: Front 4X4 axel not engaging

It sounds like a bad accuator, they are thermal and can take a while to enguage when it is cold out side. If they leak off all of the gas that is warmed to enguage the front diff then it will not work at all. I would bet that if you replaced the accuator it would work again. Hope this helps.
