Unhappy cavalier 2002 rpms go up

when braking at any time engine accelerates to 5000-10000 rpm. with each peak of acceleration all lights dim inside and out. this happens at random times. ANY IDEAS?????????? about 53,000 miles on vehicle

could this be as simple as the TPS or a more involved electrical problem
thanks for any ideas

thanks for reply, yes these are the figures my son gave me. this happens at traffic lights and at toll booths. very scary to my son who does NOT like speed. he had brakes replaced at about 35,000 miles by someone else all appears to be ok. I dont really see the braking system having anything to do with this unless there is a short somewhere which would be the reason for the lights dimming at same time.
Ill have to take the car for a road test myself next weekend. he was afraid to bring it Ill also put it on analizer to determine if any codes show TPS or the like. Any ideas to narrow search?????

If he is not the spped deamon then I don't know. I've seen abs units do some screwy things but it's rare. Probably is a sensor though dealing maybe an TPS sensor
