Anyone use a Tornado Air gizmo?

Just wondering if anyone here has used or is using one of those Tornado Air gizmos that go into the air inlet duct... The claim is that they swirl the air flow which creates a more efficient fuel/air mix... In my opinion, with fuel injection and throttle body air input I don't see how something like this would make any difference at all... But I'm interested in other peoples opinions and thoughts...

Re: Anyone use a Tornado Air gizmo?

Every few weeks, someone asks about these before doing a search.
Tere have been several threads in various sub forums about these. All such threads conclude it's a SCAM!!

Furthermore, their advertising is very careful to use what is called "anecdotal" evidence, that is, the statements made that claim it works are all personal opinion and are never directly claimed to be facts.
Therefore, they can use misleading ads on TV without actually getting their asses sued off.

Re: Anyone use a Tornado Air gizmo?

The honeycomb in the MAF sensor straightens out the airflow, so anything done forward of the MAF is negated. Even removing the honeycomb will have no positive effect, and may in fact mess up the MAF calibration, causing a negative effect.

The damn things aren't cheap either... $40-$70 for a piece of formed stainless steel sheet metal...

Re: Anyone use a Tornado Air gizmo?

i know they're shit but i mean the idea behind them is believable right? If you could create a "tornado" then it would theoretically boost the cars performance right?

I put one in and when I took it out my gas mileage went down. They don't help that much but they do help

Re: Anyone use a Tornado Air gizmo?

The science of a "tornado" action, or turbulance is good, although in this application it is of no help. The place that the turbulance is needed is INSIDE the combustion chamber. not before. So a product (usually aftermarket) that provides the fastest, most laminar air flow TOO the combustion chamber is the optimal situation. Then a cylinder/head combination that induces turbualnce inside the cylinder will provide the affects as described by the Tornado. By causing turbulance before the combustion chamber, intake flow is only slowed down, thus performance is negatively affected.

Yeah... It seems to me that maybe in a carburated engine something like this would be efective between the carb. and the intake manifold... Mix up the fuel/air and increase it's turbulence as it enters the combustion chamber... But putting something like this before the throttle body of a multi-point fuel injected engine just seems useless... Yet every weekend I see it advertised over and over on the speed channel...
