Trunk Leak 2nd Generation

1994 2 dr VL,has had a trunk leak the past year or so.Cannot find where its coming from.Seems to be toward the rear of the trunklid mostly to either side.I have removed the taillights (all 3 of them, the l/r and the trunklid panel one) and there is no leaks or obvious signs of any holes there.I have glued down the weather strip wherever it seemed loose,I have siliconed around the l/r taillights where they meet the back body,I have siliconed any body seams in the trunk that looked suspicious.I am very lost.Seems like a bunch of water is flowing (even splashing) into the trunk floor and its rolling down into the spare tire well. The rear window is NOT leaking.I checked that thoroughly and its most definite across the rear of the body. But where?

Check for holes/rust in the wheel wells or the spare tire area. On our cars they can rust through and water can be kicked up through them as we drive down the street...

My 91 sunbird did that also. Being a 2 door your back seat probably folds down so climb in and have someone spray the car down to look for the leak. What I noticed about my car was that i was getting alot of frost buildup in the trunk and maybe this was the cause I do not know. I did not know how long I had this problem before I noticed it. I just drilled a small hole in the spare tire well to let it run out .The car was old so it did not bother me to do this. Yes I know about carbon monoxide possibly seeping in but i did not plan on sleeping in the car and it already had bigger holes in other parts of the body so one more wouldn`t hurt ........LOL

Re: Trunk Leak 2nd Generation

I have a '94 that had a problem with water leaking into the trunk. It was caused by a hole right near the strut mount. If you are getting a lot of water in the trunk it probably wouldn't be hard to see it. just remove the trunk liner then look around. You won't need a second set of hads to do that and its pretty easy to do.

Re: Trunk Leak 2nd Generation

This car is near mint in the trunk, with no holes.I believe the leakage was from old limp weatherstrip. After 12 years it lays down and doesnt seal like it once did.
That car looks terrible there.....obviously was never undercoated.
