need a new head unit

I am selling my Sony cdx-L350 to a friend of mine and now lookin for a better HU. My max budget is about $250. Only requirement is that it must be black, so silver etc. I wouldn't mind gettin a nice mp3 player, but the only ones I have seen that low are the JVC and Aiwa and from what I have read, they aren't that great.

Only black units!? I'm sorry man but, you are severely cutting yourself short by admitting to that requirement.
Here's what I recommend... Go to www.crutchfield.com and filter out your needs and stuff there. Then, look for the best buy for that unit...

the whole thing doesn't have to be entirely black, just somethin to match my pioneer DEQ 7600. It just looks kinda goofy now with that EQ right below that sony HU.

Ok, today I was at SoundAdvice lookin at the new alpine line. It was the first time I had heard one personally and the are nice, and maybe it was in my head, but the sales guy played the 7284 and then some sony HU right after and I thought there was a SQ difference. Then again it could just be in my head. I am pretty much sold on the 7284, but since I currently have the pioneer DEQ7600 EQ would I loose the newly gained SQ coming from the alpine deck because that same signal gets reprocessed via the pioneer?

not unless it was hooked to the pioneer head unit optically. You lose S/N when you use an equalizer, but gain some control over the spectral content of the music. The qualitly of the sound of an EQ is really a measure of how good a person is at tuning it.
