97' Corolla transmission problem...
The 4 speed automatic trans does not kick in 4th gear until engine is running for 5 or 6 minutes. This just started with the cold weather, just changed the trans filter and fluid on the 97 it only has 44,000 miles on it. Problem still there.
any ideas? thanks |

Re: 97' Corolla transmission problem...
if it happens only in cold weather its because the tranny oil isnt warmed up...still very viscous...despite the fact that you just changed the oil and filter doesnt mean that its immune to getting cold...so therefore, just relax...its normal...

Re: 97' Corolla transmission problem...
Yes. This is normal. I don't know about the 97 Corolla, but I do know in my 84 Toyota Van, there is a temperature sensor in the cylinder head that will basically "disable" overdrive until the engine temperature reaches at least 120 degrees.
