Re: Engine Idiling Too Fast

I don't know where you're from , but here in NYC it is at or near freezing [32F/0C] -- most EFI ECU will have a high idle upon startup until the engine [coolant] is warmed up -- when it's cold outside and at or below freezing, this "warmup" process takes longer, and the coolant temp is colder so the rise in idle speed is greater and stays fast longer than when it's warm outside.

Before you start tweaking the throttle body, first make sure that the high idle does not go away after engine warm up [regardless of outside temp] -- otherwise you may end up with drivability problems like stalling when you exit the highway or at stoplights.

If the computer thinks the engine is overheating, it will also raise the idle speed to flow more coolant. Are your engine fan(s) working properly? Are they running whenever the engine is running, even just after startup? They should only turn on when the A/C is on or the coolant temp is above a certain level [~195-200F?].

An open or missing vacuum line could also cause your issue.
