Question another bad coil?

having just blown my 3rd coil in roughly 1 year, i'm getting just a tad bit peeved! any ideas on how to keep these critters alive? my expo's a '97 with 141k on it, perhaps high milage, but seems to do well, using approx 1 qt of oil every 3k, other then blowing coils, i'm pretty happy with the thing, after the 1st and 2nd coil went out in less then 1 week, i had the 100k tuneup done. ( a bit late )
sooo..............any ideas???

i'm assuming that its not coil on plug. if thats the case then i would start by checking the ground for the coil.

the fact that you waited that long to do a tune up placed undue stress on the coils which probably contributed to their failure. although coil failure is a relatively common occurence.

Re: another bad coil?

Think I can help you out. More than likely your problem is comeing from the rubber boots that connect to your coil packs. Since they are down in the cylinder head they get alot of stress from heat and start to harden and crack allowing spark to arc inside the cylinder head. This causes two problems one you get that cylinder misfire code on your code reader, two the arcing in the cylinder shorts out the coil pack.

So, I recommend changeing those spark plug boots on your remaining coil packs and that should fix your problem.

Hope this helps you out.
