Exclamation Got it Started now comes some Q's

Sup guys I finnaly got my CRX started with my D15B Vtec. Any how heres somethings I want to check, I would take pics but i have to wait till tomorrow my digi battery died on me. But heres my Q's if any one can help me, sorry i like to be as detailed as i possibly can to get more accurate feedback and help from you CRX guru's...

I got the Bosch Spark plug ignition wires from AutoZone, part N# 9829 (same plugs for a D16Z6 for a 1.6/1.5 Civic SI Vtec single cam motor) Now my question is do the plugs have to sit all the way to the bottom? because I have them sit in all the way down I feel them hit and plug in to the spark plug? heres a small pic a made in paint to give you an idea while i take pics tomorrow....

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

thats sort of like my deal,
I just got the apc 9.3mm 92-00 EX wires on my d15b2 valve cover
(I have a 92 motor)--their all practicly the same motors,same valve covers,SHAPE-evry1(except vtecs)
but I guess the valve covers on the EX's (or 92s & up) or somthing,
have a smaller diameter hole fitting for the spark plug wire boots, because mine does the same thing,
(they don't go all the way down over the circles on the valve covers)
but I heard the click when I pressed all the way down,
my guess,,,I would say everything is alright,
my car drives fine, good connection, better with these wires then the autolites I had,but I wouldn't think they are fully sealed(water proof)
as if a bowl of water was splashed over the valve cover for some reason
me myself,I think its just the manufacturer's fault on the wires.

Yea i kinda noticed it too and thought well like anything is going to be poured in there but you would feel more secure if they were covered up too.

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

If water were to get in there th likely thing is that it would boil off soon after, just hope it doesnt short the plug, but that would have to be alot of water.

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

the 1.5 and 1.6's have different wires. Apparently the 1.6's have deeper tubes, probably since they moved them towards the front. But apparently as you guys have found out, the 1.6 wires will fit the 1.5, but it won't work the other way around, i know i have a 91 1.5 that had 8mm Accell wires on it that i was gonna put on my 93 1.6, they don't fit. so now i have some 8mm wires that are just gonna sit and rot

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

Ok but i checked with the autozone guy, he told me they had the same part numbers for both I check all the wires for a CRX 88-91 1.5 and 1.6 as well as the Civic 1.5 and 1.6. All the damn wires were the same.

Heres the pics so you guys can take a look and make speculations?

Dont get me wrong as long as they work its cool and all. But I live in Chicago and we get all sorts of weather. Anyother reccommended wires will be helpful.

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

wow!
mine isnt that bad,
my wires go all the way down just hits the very top of the lift on the valve cover,(but I guess their the same, not really 4 sure anymore)
but it looks like in yours it barley even fits...

on yours: the boot cover on the wires are way over the valve cover,
(sticking up & out)
on mine: the boot is exactly touching the valve cover
(top of the lift part)
If I made any sense....

but it looks like you got stock wires & there are wires that fit exactly on your valve cover,(or else there would be plenty of complaints & hassels with them wires on that motor)
since their stock & dont cost much, like you sort of said,
I would go with a new set of wires.
also another thing, autozone sucks on OEM parts for the civic motor,
they practicly offer nothing but bosch & everything I've ever gotten from bosch & complaints I've heard,(plugs,wires,02 sensors) they all suck,
a set of 'exact' wires from advanced auto cost 17.00 & would probably be better,(but I'm not to say whats better in any brand)
srry 4 tha long post.

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

yes, autozone sucks, i used to work there, but they do usually have the cheapest parts if you hurting on cash, but ofcourse expect worse quality.

Trust me, the wires on 1.5's and 1.6's are not the same, ask any old school 4th gen enthusiast and they will tell you this. The only harm its going to do with yours not being all the way down is let water and moisture get inside there, now unless it gets completely full and your tube seals are bad, i don't see it really hurting anything unless your wires get cracks in them, then it will short out. I would suggest getting some that fit currectly.

Now I could be wrong on exact specs on which is longer, but either way, they are different. I really wish they were the same because I need new wires on my z6, but my b2s don't wanna fit.

Re: Got it Started now comes some Q's

ok,heres what I came up with,
tony is right,1.6 & 1.5 wires are different,
1.6 wires are longer, the part # 9829,for bosch is for the 1.6l engine,
you have an ed8,1.5 (tell by the vin)
the wires wouldn't go all the way down!

not to steal the thread or anything,
but what about mine? is a 92-00 EX a 1.6 engine?(thats the wires I have)
I'm doing a little research right now but decided to ask first.
-----------
(well,I guess they are,92-95 ex's,,D16Z6,)
