Tach not working/DTCP0336
Here is some history on my van. It is a '98. It has 112,000 miles on it. At 107,000 miles or so, I replaced the engine with one from an '04 with 18,000. I had it installed by a "professional" When the new engine was installed, he called me to tell me that I had a bad engine. I heard the engine run before I bought it, but was told by the "pro" that the 04 cam was different and would not work. So I bought a cam and had him install it. Still he called back and said that the engibne would not run. I began looking over it as well. I found two harnesses that looked identical BUT, the wire colors didn't match properly, SO, in fromt of the "pro" I swapped them. Engine ran with a proper idle and no balck smoke. Check engine light was on. he cleared the code, but I noticed tach wasn't working. So I drove van home. check engine light comes on that there was the P0336. Replaced Crank sensor with a new one, same error. took it to the dealer for the CASE relearn. Charged $98 and still a check engine light and no tach. The dealer did give a little helpful information though. Said the van was idleing at 9800 rpm. I did the math and found the cam and crank sensor "could" be swapped. I swapped the crank sensor on the harmonic with the cam and cleared the code. the P0336 went away, still not tach. I suspect that a relearn is still needed but I refuse to take it to the dealer.
My next question is this, I plan to do my own work from this point out. What software/tool package can I get that will do a CASE relearn? I am tired of being taken by these "professionals and dealers"
