Question Transmission noise in Park/neutral??

Hey guys,

I have recently purchased a 1997 Tahoe with 130,000 miles on it. I am hearing a hum or a whine from the tranny, only @ idle with tranny in park or neutral. This sound is very similar to what a power steering pump makes when it is low on fluid. If I shift into reverse or D, D2, L, it pretty much disappears. It really sounds like it is coming from the torque converter area but hard to tell at this point. My only thought is to change fluid and filter, and maybe check for a kinked or pinched transmission cooler line maybe???? Any help much appreciated!! Thanks

Disregard above post as I have found my problem!

Changed fluid (Royal Purple) and filter and this cured the noise. Lots of metal on the bottom of the pan magnet. Fluid was very very old. Now no noise and shifts much better.
