Re: Homemade CAI

I would think the gains would be pretty comparable between them all. I would be suprised to see a difference of 1-2 hp, but then again, I would also be really suprised to see a difference of 5 hp from any of them over stock. The PVC wont disapate as much heat as metal would and the PVC wouldnt hold up to the under hood conditions as well as metal.

Re: Homemade CAI

CAI goes down into the fender well of the car by the front tires in order to get cold air from outside into the engine rather then the warm ass air in the engine bay. That intake in the link was a warm air intake. It may be a little sketchy being that close to major engine components so you need to try and run it so that everything is away from the engine at all times.

Re: Homemade CAI

ok so i was doin some measurements on the car, and i think i can pull this off, not knowing what a MAF sensor was b4 this i saw it and thats nothing to move and same with the IAT sensor, so i am not so intimedated n e more, however looking at the car i think w plan on getting rid of the TB cover that SFI2200 thing and just using the TB to connect to itself with a 90 degree bend, however tho i was wondering about dimensions, if i were to use a 90 degree bend behind the battery and down at an angle of about 30 - 45 degrees would there be much air restriction? could somebody point me in the right direction thanks also i just noticed on RDfabs website that they have a section just for sunfire 2.2l with ABS, i have ABS will this hinder me :S:S thanks again

Re: Homemade CAI

ok so maybe not PVC but i was told tonight by some people i work with at the drug store, (i live in hick town) that some farmers up there way may have 3" aluminum arigation pipes, they weigh like nothing at all and are thin as can be do u guys think this would do the trick, or is the fact of it being thin gonna be bad for disipating heat? thanks again

Re: Homemade CAI

the thickness wouldnt matter as far as the heat goes, its the location of the air filter and the end of the pipe that is gonna effect the intake air temperature, and if you meant by insulation wise, the air goes through it so fast it wouldnt have time to get heat off of your engine,

Re: Homemade CAI

Standard WAI.

As far as the benefit of taking the blakc box off. well one it will look better but don't expect to see a different in HP maybe sound though. The little filter is for the valve cover. keeps oil out of the intake and keeps warm air out as well
