Re: how much hp?

well to start exhaust. headers catback maybe 3inch pipes. air intake /better filter. try to get a later year 3 gen you could get a cam that would help. there just some bolt ons . you could probly change the heads port and polish msd ignition shift kit for more positive shifts get the power to the wheels quicker.

Why dont you just get a 4th gen there nicer look better and newer. If you look people want just about the same for a later motel 3gen as they do for an ealy 4th gen.

Re: how much hp?

ya, i am a third gen owner, but i understand were you are comming from. The 4th gens have more hp to start with and you can pull more hp out of the motor.

Re: how much hp?

lol yeah we dont wanna start another one of those hehehehe.. but to answer the thread starters question, a good head and cam combo would help you out, if you get TPI, porting the plenum and getting bigger runners, bigger throttle body maybe, porting intake base, theres a lot of places to free up hp, some pulleys also and full exhaust. youll have a pretty healthy 350 there. then you can always mini ram it and maybe supercharge, man that would be badass.

Re: how much hp?

i picked up a book by chevy high performance magazine that detailed a project that they called the "Goodwrench Quest." they spent probably around 2500 total on beefing up a 350 (price includes the actual engine brand new from GM) and when they were done it had 423 lb/ft of torque at i think 3700 rpm and 416 horsepower at 5700 rpm. (used new heads, cam, intake manifold, carb, and 1 3/4 inch exhaust headers) the only problem is that they used the cruddy dished cast iron pistons that came with the longblock and 5700 rpm is probably a little iffy for a cast piston lol... i would do everything they did, but try to use a shortblock with forged steel internals and hypereutetic pistons instead of the stock cast iron parts. then 6000 rpm would be well attainable.

p.s. dont do this unless you live in a state like nebraska that really doesnt care at all about emissions and has no inspections lol, otherwise you would get the red flag on that in a newer car...
