Hopefully this makes an interesting thread........
What are some of the stupidest things some of you have done in your blazers??? Some of my stupid moments: 1. Going muddin with broken 4wd (and normal all-season tires). My friend got stuck so i had to tow him (thank god for limited slip) anyway got to a hill and had to abandon it. Had a tahoe pull me out later. 2. I drove through a large puddle and forgot my tires were wet, so i decided to slide around a corner as fast as i could. The wet tires broke loose and I spun at 45 miles an hour on a busy 2 lane road. Luckily i didnt flip 3. I tried jumping the truck near a taco bell 4. Ive tried climbing a steep hill (again without 4wd) and got stuck so i backed up and dug the rear end right into the dirt I havent broken anything yet except the cell phone antenna that was on the back window

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
I've never done anything stupid in my Blazer, I got it after I matured.
It should last you a long time as long as you don't do any more crazy jumps, and don't get it overly stuck where they have to take a run at it to get you out. When I was younger I would have put those 4 things to shame in a very short period of time. But my car was also heavily modified for what I was doing, and the streets were closed off and monitored |

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
When I first got my blazer I knew that the CPI was bad (didn't care, I had an extra one on the shelf). So while changing the CPI I thought, why don't I change the cap and rotor while I have the plenum off?
Suffice to say I didn't realize I dropped a screw down the #5 port in the plenum. When I started it I basically trashed the cylinder.

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
I know how you can beat a firebird in a burn out contest , since I can't brake mine up to sit and spin . It just s**ts and gits .
Ultrashock , I hope you don't make it a habit of saying "Hey yall , watch this !" Rob

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
I ordered a new Gibson stainless steel cat back exhaust system for my Blazer ZR2. When it arrived of course I was excited, so I hurried to install it. After a couple of days of driving with it, I looked closer at the part number on the carton it came in and put a magnet to the muffler. They had sent me the regular system (not stainless steel) but charged me for the higher priced ss system! (over $100 dollars more) Fortunately I had not taken it out in any wet weather so it still looked like new, and I was able to remove and return it for full refund. This was not really that bad, but since I didn't check BEFORE installing it I still felt like a dope.
The REALLY stupid stuff I did was in other cars long before the Blazers, when I was just a kid. Like street racing my 67 Mustang while I was drunk. But that's whole nother story!

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
I tried to drive my Blazer through about 3 feet of snow in an unplowed driveway and broke the lower bumper (the plastic part by the tow hooks)
Not really all that bad though, I cant do many stupid things because my son is almost always in the car with me, (thank god ) otherwise I am sure there would be plenty of horror stories.

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
After adjusting my lifters in a small block on a Friday afternoon, I had the irresistable urge to see my gf in Phoenix. I slapped on the valve covers and drove most of the way from Tucson to Phoenix before I realized that you need to retighten the valve covers after they are heated up (cork gaskets) to prevent your entire oil supply from spilling out on the highway and trashing your engine.
Oh well, it is tough to control hormones at 18... I needed a better engine anyway..

Re: The Stupid Things We Do
This one wasn't me but I definitely think its worth mentioning..
My DAD and his dad were going ice fishing in my dad's (then nearly new) 1985 Jimmy. Basically, once they got to the lake, they noticed that there was a relatively large snow bank obstructing the path to the ice. My dad got out of the truck inspected the snow bank and figured it was pretty much powdered snow.. So he backs up a bit, and then GUNS it at the snow bank thinking he'll just break right through. Instead the snow bank acts as a makeshift ramp, launches the entire truck in the air (all 4 wheels) and smacks it down HARD ON THE ICE! Now thats funny and stupid as it is... but what makes it hilarious is that my Grandpa was carrying a bucket of minnows as bait and there was no cover on the bucket. We were finding minnows under the seats and carpets 6 months after. My dad said he hated that truck because it was always breaking.. what he always leaves out are stories like these.. and the times he tried to learn how to shift without using a clutch etc.. |
