Curling: A true curling legend.......
Yes, I know for half of you, curling is the remedy for insomnia, and the other half are thinking 'what's curling?'
Curling's appeal is in precision, stratagy and the fact that it is truly an ameteur sport. Nobody can make a living by playing it, so the participants must have day jobs, truly the hallmark of an ametuer sport. This means the sponsored professionals are kept out, so everyday people like you and me might have a reasonable hope of excelling in the sport. For example.....where else can a foursome of Saskachewan (Canada) housewives become the best in the world at a sport? In 1998, Sandra Schmirler (1963-2000) led her curling tem of Joan McCuster, Jan Betker, Marcia Gudereit and Atina Ford to win the first ever Olympic gold medal in women's curling. Sandra Schmirler was truly exceptional; a successful working mother, wife and curler, before sadly passing away in 2000 at the age of 36. http://soudogcurling.tripod.com/schmirler_tribute.html http://www.womenwarriors.ca/en/athle...ofile.asp?id=2 http://myhero.com/myhero/hero.asp?hero=s_schmirler |

Re: A true curling legend.......
Nobody can make a living out of it, because no one in their right mind would pay to watch it...
