Vonage

Anyone here have Vonage? I'm considering getting it and there are some things that make me wonder about it, though.

I don't think we can get our local area code, 859 or even 513 which is close. This means that people calling us will have to pay long distance. I know this. No big deal. I'll just pick up and tell them I'll call them back...not a big deal. My girlfriend seems to think that WE would get charged if we pick up in this case. Is that true? That doesn't sound right to me.

911. What the hell is the deal with 911. Their website says 911 is free, their pamphlet says it requires "activation". Is it a one time fee?

How do you guys like the whole thing? Would you recommend it? Is your bill the same every month?

Any help appreciated!

Re: Vonage

i like vonage a lot...... except last week when Comcast was going on/off for 2-3 days. 911 has to be activated because when 911 is called from home, your address/phone number comes up on their screen. Also when using a regular line the phone network knows the closest 911 dispatcher to connect you to. its a one time fee. This works especailly for people who may be choking and cannot speak. i checked, 859, 513 are available. When someone calls you from a different area code they pay. with the Unlimited plan my bill is always the same.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I figured the 911 thing was a one time charge. Doesn't matter to me.

Wonder why Best Buy told my girl that neither 859 nor 513 were available...

I knew they paid. Someone told her (or so she thought, anyway) we'd pay, too. I've NEVER heard of anything like that...knew she heard wrong.

Thanks for the reply, man!

Feeling better about hooking up my Vonage Phone Adapter now!!!

Re: Vonage

lmao

For the most part, I agree. This is why I can not POSSIBLY stress enough the power of being an informed buyer to people. Whether you're buying a car, cell phone, computer, iPod, CD, piece of wood...whatever...KNOW what you're looking for and know what you're buying!

Anyway...these are the people that have the last word which number I get. lol If they say/think/believe/whatever that the 859 and 513 area codes are not available then I ain't gettin it! lol

I'm gunna have to go have a word with them tomorrow.
