1999 olds 88 clicking noise very annoying
Hi i have a 99 olds 88 that is making a clicking noise from the right side or maybe the back of the engine somwere not really sure it travels alot. It clicks when i turn right If i turn in a circle it will be a constant click seems like it makes the noise only when the body is swayed to the left and all the weight is on the lft front. Also does it when the weels are turned right and i back up but does not start until i hit the brakes pretty hard making the weight all be on the left side and the drive shaft is done spinning usually when the noise starts backing up so i dont think it is a cv shaft. It has had new brakes put on it and a left drive shaft so i know it is not in them. any help would be appreciated thanks ahead of time

Re: 1999 olds 88 clicking noise very annoying
How many miles does your car have? From which wheel is the noise coming from Left? Right? Both? Have some one roll down a window and listen to the clicking. Since you had to replace the left one it sounds like it is the right cv joint?

Re: 1999 olds 88 clicking noise very annoying
i went ahead and replaced the right cv joint today noise is still there. the car has 114,000 miles on it. I have replace both cv joints so far and put new brakes on it. Like I said it does not sound like a cv joint clicking noise but i figured it was my best shot. It only does it when the weight of the car is on the left wheel and all of the weight or most of it is off the right wheel. It does sound like it is coming from the right but it does travel alot. Went as far as using a stethascope with someone else driving but could not find the source any other ideas would be appreciated thanks

Re: 1999 olds 88 clicking noise very annoying
try replacing the bearings maybe? or just replace the the whole darn drive shaft. if you go to NAPA, you can get one for like 80 bucks

Re: 1999 olds 88 clicking noise very annoying
i did replace the complete drive shafts on both sides and it could possible be bearings because i can not get the noise to simulate itself when it is on the lift possibly because no weight is on the tires is my thought anyways any other suggestions

ok ummm check the tie rods and tie rod ends... that could be it... or the stabalizer bar... ... ... ummm... ... ... the ball joint on the bottom of the strut... those are all things that can click....

After 6 years it is recommended you start a new thread. Ex No. Bellmorite here. BTW the caliper bracket bolts being loose can cause this.
