1985 Toyota Corolla AE82 mod help

I have bought a 1985 toyota corolla AE82 DOHC, and im trying to learn more about motors and modifying, i wanted to know if anyone knew any cheapish easy type of mods i can do to my car to get a second or two faster atleast, at the moment i can get 0-60 miles or 0-100 km in just under 14 seconds and 0-100 miles in well lets just say it takes the better part of a minute lol, this would be greatly appreciated, thanx

oh another thing i wanted to know is unless the car is real warm it drives like a brick, is there anythin i can do to moderate the temperature more or get it warmer quicker, so i dont have to drive around for half an hour before i can do an amazing 0-60 in 14 seconds lol
