90 4Runner Starting Problem

Hey, I just bought a 1990 4Runner and I can't get it to start. I don't think it's the battery because when I try to turn it on the radio comes on along with all the dashboard lights and everything. Also, we tried to jump start it and that didn't work. The engine just doesn't go on. I have no idea why it won't start... and when I try there is no sound, no clicks, no like chugging sounds (like it's trying to start) no nothing. We also tried to compression start it... and that didn't work either. Can someone please help??

When you turn the switch to start are you getting power to the solenoid? Can you turn the motor by hand?

Re: 90 4Runner Starting Problem

I wouldn't know how to tell if power is getting to the solenoid... I don't know anything about cars. But if that's the coil or something, that's what some people have told me that may be the problem. I just don't know, so I thought I'd try and get some suggestions on here.

Re: 90 4Runner Starting Problem

I have a 90 that had the exact same problem. They changed the soleniod, which is a common problem, but it didn't work. They finally figured out that the plunger in the starter was the problem. I don't know squat about cars either, but that was the info my mechanic gave me. I haven't had a problem since.
