95 Fuse #7 blowing...

Hello

I have a 95 and out of the blue #7 fuse blows. This fuse is for the brake lights and powers the safty that requires pressing the brake to shift from park.

Of course, the fuse blows when my wife needs to get somewhere and I'm not home from work yet.

When I got home I was able to move the van into the driveway by shifting out of park by unlocking the ignition but not going to on.

I tried another fuse and it poped right away when I steped on the brake. I thought my trailer wiring may be causing the fault. I moved it away from some metal objects. No, that wasn't it. Pop....there goes another fuse.

I don't remember who wrote this next one...but thank you. Next I put a light bulb inplace of the fuse. When I steped on the brake it lite bright indicating a direct short! I took everything apart that has to do with the brake lights. I couldn't find anything that would be a short. I pulled all of the bulbs out, and then the bulb (the one in place of the fuse) wouldn't light. I put one bulb in and a fues. The bulb lite and the fuse stayed intact. Added more bulbs and still a good fuse. Put all of the bulbs in and everything was okay. Put it back together and every thing is okay.

ANYONE have a simular experience?

Thanks

Dan

Yup! I had a similar experience. My gas gauge didn't work!! even after .. I replaced the tank sensor, anti slosh do-dad, and the gauge itself. Problem wound up being in the clip/connector closest to the gas tank. ANY connector is suspect. I've concocted a straigtpin probe on one of my multimeter wires to track down this sort of problem. Trace that wire guy!!

Re: 95 Fuse #7 blowing...

The wire goes from FUSE #7 to the Brake On / Off (BOO) switch that is mounted to the brake pedal shaft. I had the wire break off that switch.....
When this happens, you have NO brake lights. You can shift the car into Neutral, start the car...and shift into drive and reverse. Once you shift into Park with the engine ON, you will be staying in park as the shift solonoid is engaged. You will have to turn the engine OFF, shift into Neutral, start the engine to be able to drive again. But remember......you will have NO BRAKE LIGHTS!!! So one should not drive around like that.
