RPM guage

I had my transfer case out and when I put it back in and started it the RPM needle was pegged. Any ideas?

If you took any wires off while doing the job you probably somehow got 2 crossed. I don't think that pinching it would cause it.

Every Tach that I've seen (with the exception of old motorcycles) was controlled by the coil.
For this to happen the motor would have to be screaming.
