AMT Models

Hey guys,
I have a question about amt. I have a model from them (corvette GS, of course) and i was wondering how good their models are. I know that tayima has really good models but i cant ever find them in the stores. (either that or i don't know what they look like, so if somebody could enclose a picture of any tayima model, then i would have an idea of what it looks like at least, its because i cant find anything at all) I can find revell models but i don't know whether AMT makes better models or not.

When you see this logo on a box, you know that's a Tamiya product.

Where are you looking? Just about ever hobby shop in the United states that I have been to has Tamiya models. I am not sure anywhere else in the world.

If you're looking in like wal-mart and stuff, they dont carry Tamiya,

Quality from AMT? Well, lets just say I rather carve a model out of butter then build a AMT model. Revell is accetable, tamiya is great, hardly ever a bad model. Fujimi, Aoshima, Hasewaga, also makes good models, none of them are offered in regular stores, just hobby shops. Why would you need a Tamiya model box? LOL, trust me, you will know its Tamiya by the box.

AMY model are crap.. I got one here (GMC Syclone) and it's Horrible.... I never make it after 4 year.. Stick with Tamiya (www.tamiya.com)

ok, Think of like this, its bad, but not that bad as everyone says it seems to be. Personally, If I found a model that I wanted to build and it was AMT, I would still buy it, yes, I would rather it be build by revell or tamiya, but hey, Its modeling right, can't be perfect, otherwise, wheres the challange. and dont stick to Tamiya, there alot of great companies besides Tamiya, tamiya is the best, but Revell is not TOO far behind.

You get what you pay for.
AMT has lots of plastic flaws, bad proportions, crappy wheels and tires, not too much detail, peices don't fit together well, etc. So if you follow the instructions, they look like crap. But you can get them looking extremely good, plus they come with an engine!

All 3 of the models in my sig are AMT. The lightning alone has taken me about 25 hours so far and I'm still not done, but its looking fucking sweet! I also currently have the dropped ranger soaking in CSC ready for a complete re-do with better detail and ground effects, and the next one I do is gonna have a lot of parts (including engine) swapped out a 5L mustang kit.

I buy AMT and Revell when I want an adventure and want to customize.


I buy Tamiya when I want to build a car to pretty much exact specs, though Revell is good sometimes too.

If you find something you want to build Buy It If you want something easy and quick try a Predecorated snap kit. Anybody can
do a tamiya kit ,but an AMT or Revell kit takes some skill to do it right,this is a hobby right-relaxing-engrossing-a feeling of accomplisment when you're done!!!

At least AMT kits have engines..... Tamiya is good for painters, not detailers!
Any of you Tamiya fans wanna build-up one of your Tamiya kits and take me on at a model contest with a built AMT or Revell kit.....LET'S GET IT ON!!

Murco are you stupid? Why did you use my words for "you tamiya fans" does it look like I am favoring tamiya? NO

If I had a camera I would take a picture for you to the many AMT and Revell models the I had, I build about 5 AMT and Revell Models for about every 1 tamiya(or japanese company)

Exactly what part of my post would bring you to this conclusion? I never said you were a Tamiya fan, but your post would lead one to think you were.
My offer (or challenge) was not directed at you specifically, more for those who constantly post messages ragging on Revell-Monogram and AMT for quality. These people need to quit looking at the kit itself as 50% of the finished product's quality and focus more on their skills so that ANY kit they tackle will be a show-stopper.

The Revell vs Tamiya will go no where like the last time we had a thread about it. Both are respectable model car companies, and both have their pros and cons. Some prefer one over the other, and that's perfectly fine. They are different to suit people's needs. We can go forever with who's better, but I don't see the point of it.

Each company specialize in a portion of the model car fans.
I think AMT specialize in 30's - 70's american cars. Revell in 60's - current american cars and also in american race cars (drag race, NASCAR). But both ofers other model years and some european or japanese

Tamiya offerings are mainly current japanese and european cars (exeptions are the mustang, and some jeeps).

If i want to built an street rod I will go with revell or AMT not Tamiya and if I want to built a toyota I will go Tamiya.
