Lightbulb Newbie switch

wuz up I plan to purchase a new kawasaki 650 as soon as I turn 17. Is this to much bike for a rookie if so I will go with the kawisaki 500. I plan to purchase a new bike when I turn eighteen. Will I be ready for a zx10r or shoud I try something less fast gsx750 or even lower with a 600 class when I turn 18. I plan on taking a motorcycle course, and I am not in a hurry to die so I wont be doing any speeds that I'm not capable of.
