New To Board

Hey everyone....I have a 2001 Eclipse GT Spyder that I bought in June of 2005. I absolutly love this car. Here is what I have done so far for upgrades. I have an AEM Cold Air Intake System, New 17" Rims, High Performance Drilled and Slotted Roters (Just put in Yesterday). I just ordered a Centerforce Stage 2 Clutch and a Fidenza High Performance light weight flywheel. I have also changed out the underdrive pully to a AEM light weight pully. Does the short shifter really make a big difference? Can you all give me some ideas on what I can do next to increace power. I am getting ready to order a new Magnaflow Exhause System as well. I want more speed lol. Once I learn how to use this board, I can and will post pictures of my ride. Hope I get some good responces.

Dan

Re: New To Board

Thank you. Looks like you have some nice things on your ride. Hey I am am having my new centerforce stage 2 clutch and fidanza 9lb flywheel put in next week. Is there anything that you would recommend I do while they have that stuff out. Trying to save money.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: New To Board

I'd get a LSD and have them all 3 put in at the sametime.

since you are new, i'll refer you to the first post on this page as far as modifying your vehicle goes.

besides that welcome to the board

LSD : Limited Slip Differential, basically makes sure both wheels turn at the same rate to prevent a power wheel, or torque steer

also certain companies will replace their differentials for free and are built for racing

Re: New To Board

As for the short shifter, I have the B&M and it helps alot. It isnt that much shorter between gears (like from 1st to 2nd), but the lateral throw is shorter (it is much str8ter from 2-3, the stick centers itself when its in neutral so 3rd is like straight up). There isnt a whole lot you can do performance wise that will make a big dif. unless you want to put some money into it. You are on the right track with the flywheel and clutch, exhaust and intake. An LSD will not add power, but it will lower your 0-60 time because you wont get as much wheel spin, poly motor mounts will also help with feel.

Re: New To Board

Thanks man for the advise. I think I will get a short shifter for my car. I can't wait to see the difference in the car when I have the clutch and flywheel put in next week. I think I am going to work on looks just as much as power for my car. I like the sound system that you have in your car and I will have to work on my soon.

Re: New To Board

You notice any improvement with your underdrive pulley? I kinda want to put one on, but with my stereo i cant afford to lose any alternator power. Also, I havent really heard anything from anyone that has put one on.

Re: New To Board

I was told the purpose of the underdrive pully was to ellimate drag. I have noticed that I don't have much drag when the a/c is on. Other then that it's just lighter then the stock one and increases a little bit of the power. I have no complaints with it so far.

its been around the boards that the lightweigh underdrive pulley's from any company eventually throw codes, i'm not getting one, but thats cuz i don't want to, if it proved worth the money i might though

as for the shortshifter, i also have the B&M and i love it, but say goodbye to putting things in your cupholder, cuz if you do it'll be awkward driving

also energy suspension shift bushings made a very big difference by themselves for shifter feel, so definitely get those while your at it

Re: New To Board

That could explain why my check engine light came on for no reason. I did take it into the shop and he said it was the oxygen sensor. They could not find anything wrong with anything so he just reset it and so far so good.

I wansn't sure if that is what caused it or not I was just guessing. You would probably know more about that then I would. Could of been something else. But that problem seems to be fixed now.

I got my Fidanza flywheel in today and will have my new clutch and flywheel put in on Wednesday. I can't wait! Right now it seems like the clutch is slipping just a bit and can't wait to get all my power back.

I want to order those 14000 (what ever) headlights for my car. I think that will be next. Probably order those this weekend. Those sound very nice.
