Shimmy/Wobble/Vibration when Braking

1998 4Runner Limited 4WD, 101k miles.
Excessive wobble in front end when braking.
I done a lot of web searching and this appears to be a known issue.
Does anyone have the Service Bulletin for this issue.

Re: Shimmy/Wobble/Vibration when Braking

This is a "KNOWN" problem for anyone who drives "hard" from Trans-Am to 4Runners. heavy pigs with weak braking systems. The main source of this problem is heat in the rotors causing "hard spots" to develop, cant turn them out, grinding works initially but the hard spots are still there.
Replacement and have the replacements trued before use. Use higher performance pads but this means more metal in the pad and shorter rotor life.

Re: Shimmy/Wobble/Vibration when Braking

That happened to me and I had the rotors replaced and got new brake pads because the rotors were wore out and couldn't be cut anymore but after a couple of weeks it came back again. It turned out to be the brake calipers were sticking so I had them fixed and now everything is back to normal. And your Buddy is right about the harder brake pads , they will wear out your rotors before the pads and rotors are much more expensive than brake pads. Mind you now I drive a 94 4Runner, she's old but still excellent, about 210,000 kms on her now and still working great. I know thats not alot of miles but I'm disabled and don't drive as much as I use to, but that 4runner will go through any snow put in front of it and I'll keep it until she's rotted to the frame and then I'll try to do a restore on her. I truly love that truck, it's the only vechile I've kept for more than 3 years. I've had her 7 years now and still going.
