NewBie's Questions

Hi Guys,

I have a 97 Honda Civic. Every morning I start the car, there is ticking sound from the engine but this usually gone within 1-2 minutes. Wondering if this is usual? The engine oil I am using Castro GTX 10w30, it it good?

Thanks,
cfy30

Re: NewBie's Questions

Yea just needs a valve adjusment to take that away...They useually do it after a while or unless you dont change the oil as much as your supposed to...My g/f found out not changing your oil or being to lazy to take it and have it done it will cause that...So yea keep your changes up to date and everything...

The tick shouldnt hurt anything unless its a loud obnoxious 2-3 minute tick/knock sound till it warms up then id prolly have the head rebuilt or whatever...

later

Re: NewBie's Questions

Use 5W30 oil only. 5W30 is thinner when it gets cold, so it can pump a lot easier. Plus 5w30 is recommended by Honda to be used in all temperatures (however,10W30 can be used if the temp never drops below 32F). I have the same ticking sound, but it only happens when the temp is below freezing, not really a urgent problem as I see it, but it sure can get annoying.
