rear shocks?

Just purchased a 95 town car. The rear air bags are holding air but the car seems a little squirrely. I was wondering if anyone thinks it would help to change the rear shocks?

Re: rear shocks?

These shocks are fairly durable. If you replace them it should be with the same model as was used OEM. All the shocks are for is deadening the up/down movement.

What's squirrly mean? Tracking problems?

If the tires are incorrect it may be following the grooves in the road? How's the tire air pressure? How's the alignment? Does the vehicle history indicate any accidents?

Odd tire wear is a good indicator of mis-alignment, incorrect air pressure, and suspension component problems.

Severly damaged front suspension components might also cause tracking problems.

Re: rear shocks?

My 94 Town Car was riding a little bouncy...so I replaced all the shocks. I usually do all of my own work, but the rear ones are nasty.

So, I went to sears when they had a "Free Installation" sale and had the Monroe Sensatrac shocks installed for about $100. BIG difference in ride quality and handling.

Re: rear shocks?

I had repalced all four shocks on our '97 Town Car with Monroe Sensa Trac shocks. The ride seamed to be a little firm to me, our Silverado 4X4 rode better. We used the Monroes for a couple hundred miles and then replaced them with Motorcraft shocks. Now the car rides much softer and smoother.
