Xm Satelite Hook-up
Has Anybody Hooked Their Xm Brand Satelite Radio Directly To The Power Wire On The Am/fm Instead Of Using The Cigarette Plug Hook-up. I Want To Get Rid Of The Plug And Hardwire It. There Is Something In The Owners Manual About The Xm Being A 6 Volt System, And The Cig Plug Switches It Over From 12 Volt.
Is There Is A Alternative Hook-up? Thanks |

Re: Xm Satelite Hook-up
Check out http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products...asp?Item=ROADY.
The page discusses motorcycles, but has an adapter for 12v to 6v conversion with direct wiring to the radio. I'm assuming you have a Roady, Roady2 or Roady XT. Doesn't specifically say this harness is only for them... 5th item from the top. $30. Me, I just tie-wrapped the power cord and wrapped it around the base. But that's a matter of personal preference. That way, I've got less to fool with if I ever get rid of the truck. |

Re: Xm Satelite Hook-up

it's just that the cigarette plug looks a little unprofessional. i have it for 6 months now i should be used to it. |

Re: Xm Satelite Hook-up
I have a Sirius Starmate, hard wired mine directly to oem stereo, switched power. Have Sirius mounted in overhead storage bin, ran cables through headliner and down drivers side pillar, then snaked through dash to power. Now Sirius is powered on and off without that nasty lighter cord hanging down.

Re: Xm Satelite Hook-up
Hey Hogster3,
I used to work at Best Buy in the installation bay so we learned on the companies dime NOT to hardwire XM. XM is 6 volts (or something but not 12) Sirius is 12 volts. We torched a few XMs before we realized what was happening. All you need to hardwire is to make sure you keep the plug (it does the converting). So go to Wal-Mart and get a female cig lighter plug, wire it into switched power and plug in the XM make cig plug to it. It does make a hell of a difference in apperance.

Re: Xm Satelite Hook-up
yes the xm's are 6 volt and the brand new xms are 5 volt, thats why i said to wire onto the plug and use that, or get an adapter. the sirius is 12 but i would still just wire onto the plug and use it that way.
