coolant system bleed - 1995 SE 3.1 v6

ok, i think that i have air in my system and cant get it to bleed...

i put coolant in until the res. is almost full, start the car and plan to add coolant as it needs until it's bled. instead it starts to get warm and just flow out the res. like its boiling over almost, but coolant not hot yet.....

I broke the bleeder screw off 2 weeks ago and need to stop at a stealership to get a new one i guess....

btw...it heats up to the red quickly and then sometimes drops and seems fine......????

my first thread on this.....

Remove the radiator cap with the nose of the car pointed up hill. Run the car, if there is air in the system then the air should come out. If there is air in the system you should see a drop in the fluid level in the radiator not in the reservoir. Letting air vent through the reservoir will take too long. Also make sure you have a good radiator cap, if it is not holding pressure it can cause the car to overheat.

ya it does this when air is traped in th esystem. Make sure you turn on your heater to defrost and full heat while purging the air. It is a PITA, dont know why they took away the radiator caps...

But its over flowing because the air(heats and expands) is pushing out the coolant. Just let it run with the cap off and keep adding it slowly as it is drawn into the rad/engine.
It'll take some time since the bleeders not working. but you should be able to get it.

Re: coolant system bleed - 1995 SE 3.1 v6

OK i spent the last hour bleeding the system....... It seems better now.

now when i drive it if i drive slow it will heat up to just over 220, if i hit the gas or pop it in neutral and rev it to 2500ish and hold it will start cooling off even if i am sitting still.....

Does this mean it needs more bleeding??
