Re: Parking Brake not holding

If by car, you mean Silverado, then there are two things to do:

1. Find the parking brake cable, it is a steel line running along the drivers side frame from the front to the rear axle. There is an adjuster on the cable, tighten the adjusting bolt and see if that helps.

2. If that doesn't work, take off the wheels/calipers/rotors and replace the parking brake shoes. If I remember correctly they will run ~$70 at your GM dealer. Be sure to adjust them properly, just like any other drum brake, and let as much adjustment as is safe out of the adjuster, so that as the shoes wear you can tighten it back up.

Re: Parking Brake not holding

I had the same problem with my '00 silverado. All the adjustment was out of the cable and the parking brake would still go to the floor. The answer was a new cable, or try to shorten the existing cable...so I solved the problem a different way...bought a new truck. Expensive, but effective

Re: Parking Brake not holding

It may need an adjustment, or not. My entire system went out and cost damn near 5 big ones. Works like a champ now.

Re: Parking Brake not holding

I Did all 4 rotors and all 6 pads just before christmas. Total was just under $400 CAN for all the parts. My Ebrake would hold but not very well. When I took it apart it was fully adjusted and completely worn out. I backed it right out to nothing then put the new E-Brake shoe in. Works stompy now and the regular brakes with new shoes and rotors are really strong too
