66 SS Conv. questions

A'right, I'm FINALLY getting my car from my grandmothers house on March 15th. The car has been sitting at her house outside of Boise, Idaho for the last 10 years or so, and now my dad and I can finally afford to bring it down here to Arizona. We had a friend take it from Boise to Reno, Nevada on a trailer, and he says he hasn't seen a lot of rust, the body is almost perfect, and he got the 327 running

We're ordering a new convertible top for it, which will be installed before we pick it up from our friends house. Once we get it here, it's getting painted and I'd like to get a nice exhaust system. After that, I'd like to get an aftermarket CD player put in. I know car audio fairly well, but what is the best method for installing something in a classic car? Will it fit in the dash, or do I need to make an enclosure and mount it somehwere?

Also, I'd like to convert to Fuel Injection if possible. It's got the 327 V8 with a 2 spd PowerGlide trans.

Lastly, I would like to do airbag suspension so that I can lower it for shows, and then return it to a reasonable height for driving. Is Air Ride Technologies the best option here?

Thanks for any help guys. I'm going to do a website/blog about the restoration and build-up of this car. Not bad for my first car, eh?

Re: 66 SS Conv. questions

You can get a cd radio that fits in the stock location, Hemmings list companies that have them, Modern efi from a late model small block will not work on a 327, I would worry about the engines basic condition before dealing with efi, your are getting ahead of yourself here. Factory efi is too costly and not efficient from the original Corvettes and expensive.

Re: 66 SS Conv. questions

Well, the engine was completely rebuilt before it was put in, then it was driven once or twice a week (or atleast ran for a bit), and then after a few years, it sat. It sat for about 15 years without being started but our friend got the engine running good. Also, I'm sure the stuff that fits in the factory location won't have the sound quality and adjustability, or features, that my Alpine head unit has.
