Question ABS light and check traction control

Hi new to the forum, I have a 95 continental, when I start it up everything is fine, but when I start to drive, once I go over 10mph the ABS light comes on and the check traction control message comes on at the same time. Once the car is turned off and turned back on everything is fine again until I go over 10mph and the same thing happens. If anyone has any insight into what is wrong any help would be greatly apprietiated.

Re: ABS light and check traction control

These are different animals from 1995/96 on up. The earlier ABS could be diagnosed via pinout connector, the 95/96 up need more futuristic diagnosis equiptment for ABS. Brake-shop or Dealer

Most likely a bad ABS wheel sensor or corroded connection to a sensor. Most folks unplug each sensor, clean the connector with a spray designed for the purpose, and re-connect them. Sometimes that's all that's required, problem goes away.

One worse case, a sensor is bad, but you don't know which one. You might think, well -- I'll replace all four. Then the problem still exists -- Crap!

That leads to the next worse case, the ABS Control Module may be defective. That one runs about $300 + depending on who you ask.

Someone (shop or dealer) with the proper test equiptment should be able to eliminate the guesswork.

If it's < 1995 you may be able to run the tests via pinout connector.
