4.6 DOHC in 92 stang?

Hello,
I have a 92 Mustang LX with a four cylinder and auto tranny that runs pretty poor. I'm interested in swapping an aluminum DOHC 4.6L, but I don't really know what the swap entails and i haven't seen anybody thats done it. The mustang is my second car so its not a big deal if its up on blocks for awhile. I would like to use a six speed transmission (any suggestions?). I really want the aluminum block because i want to really shed the weight of the mustang down to about 2700lbs. Does anyone know how much the aluminum block of the 4.6 weighs? Also would this better help with weight distribution? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 4.6 DOHC in 92 stang?

way too much.

The block is light (80lbs on a 01 Cobra) but that is it. The DOHC adds a ton of weight. Also a T56 is going to add some weight. What are your plans 1/4mi, road courses, or what?

Re: 4.6 DOHC in 92 stang?

You want a 4.6, and a six speed..Your gonna go over your wanted weight, but if you for-sure want a 4.6 and 6spd, I'd fine an 03 cobra drivetrain. Or try atleast. then pretty much all you'll have to do is computer work/electrical and mounts. But if i were you i'd just fine a 302 and build it. (IE: GT-40 heads, exhaust, cam, block, ignition..etc.)

Re: 4.6 DOHC in 92 stang?

So basically a fully assembled 4.6 dohc weighs more than a fully assembled 5.0? Maybe a 5.0 with an aluminum block would be the weigh to go in my quest for weight loss? Also, how much more would a T-56 weigh than a T-5?
