Re: 87 wagon wat gears

I don't know and I'm not sure if anyone else on this forum would. There's probably a stamp on the gears that would tell you the ratio, but if you want to change the gearing you'd probably need to have some gears custom made.

One problem you might run into by swapping the gears is that since it's AWD the rear tires would be spinning at a different speed than the front. This would cause problems in the tranny/transfer diff and you'd probably end up blowing the tranny. This happened to a friend of mine who put different sized tires on his 4WD (dumbass). He blew the transfer case before the tires even showed signs of wear.

Planning to build an AWD CRX?

Sorry I couldn't be more help. You might try RPR.

Re: 87 wagon wat gears

well I'm looking at building an awd crx...but the reason I'd like to figure out what the gears are is because I may end up mix some of the drive line parts...and I'll need to make some things match up

Re: 87 wagon wat gears

You could also swap the rear end for one from another car. Maybe from an Isuzu Impulse or Mazda RX7 (4x100 bolt pattern). You'd just have to modify the drive shaft and suspension mounts to make it work.
