Intake Kits For Jeeps?

Is it even worth it to buy an intake kit for a Jeep. Last time I bought an intake kit was for my Tacoma which did nothing for performance and just made it sound like a ricer until I put exhaust in it. So let me know if there are any good intake kits for Jeeps that will improve performance and wont make my Jeep sound like a ricer.

Re: Intake Kits For Jeeps?

I just put the Banks Torque tube in my (94) Wrangler. I can notice a little bit more kick. The main reason for my install was the OEM was cracked.

Re: Intake Kits For Jeeps?

I think the only time an intake system helps is when installed in combination with an exhaust system that is more free flowing than the OEM exhaust.
But then again that gets expensive too. maybe $1,000 or more for a good intake and exhaust setup. ( intake/throttlebody/spacer/header/free flow cat/cat back exhaust )
Increased horsepower gains vs. price/expense seems not even worth it for me.
I don't have the money to build a full custom jeep so why start trying to build something that I am never going to finish?
However if parts of your intake and exhaust system break or crack, why not replace them with something better?
But then again it could change the whole sound of your JEEP to make that cool ricer sound! hahaha
I had put a new intake on one of my previous rides wiithout adding a new exhaust system as well, and after a short time the force and volume of the exitting exhaust air actually blew out the whole interior of my old ragged, and rusted muffler.
I guess it was headed that direction anyways, just didn't count on losing my muffler that fast.
So now I just stick with OEM parts since I don't have $50,000 at the moment to drop on Aftermarket Upgrades

Re: Intake Kits For Jeeps?

actually Intakes an exhausts work together
and intake by itself isn't going to do you much good
thats the only reason I brought up exhaust?
guess someone couldn't figure that out

Re: Intake Kits For Jeeps?

Axe, I dont know how you took my post... But I was referring to what I posted, not you. Barn's request was some information about an intake. I specifically posted about an exhaust. Yes, they work hand in hand, but I failed to answer his question, because I posted about the exhuast. Therefored the "I'm an idiot" post. Not at all directed torwards you.
