2001 SS Front Suspension Chatter
I've been digging around the internet trying to figure out what is going on here. Here is what is going on.
When driving at 40+ MPH on the Highway, I can feel this chatter / rattle coming up the steering column and in the break pedal. I thought it could be related to the ISS TSB, but I don't notice anything when turning the steering wheel while parked or at slow speeds. You can still feel it as slower speeds, but it is not nearly as bad. Also, you can hear and feel the chatter when going over rough roads that really exercise the front suspension. The car only has 54K miles on it and it has been getting slowly worse over time. I thought it was the breaks, so I pulled the pads and noticed that the driver side outside pad was shattered and the inside was extremely worn. I replaced all of the pads and rotors on the front and it did not fix the problem. I'm thinking this ... Sway bar links are good (just checked them) Ball Joint on the lower control arm is going out Lower control arm bushings might be blown Bad tie-rod ends Coil/Strut mount bushing in the tower is shot Thanks !!!! |

Re: 2001 SS Front Suspension Chatter
I had this too..along with the intermediate steering shaft problem. I fixed the ISS and it took care of this problem too.

Re: 2001 SS Front Suspension Chatter
I was thinking that, but my driver side breaks seem to wear out every 8 months now. I don't think the ISS would cause break wear on the driver side though.
