moderators?

just wondering who are you moderators? what do you do (for a living and or on the site)? what are your Reponsibilities? do you have to go through every single thread? have any special powers like taking off an accidentaly posted thread (ie my oops in the mercury section with the: whats the best muscle chevy thread... yeah my bad) . where you from? basically anything you want to share.

Re: moderators?

When we become a moderator, we are issued with a skull cap and DIY connections. Long story short, this makes us the AF equivalent of omnipotent, and allows us to read (and edit) every post on AF at the same time.

Seriously though, we just keep the place tidy.

Myself, I'm a university student from Wellington, NZ, but studying in Christchurch. Doing a BSc in Geography/Geology, just finishing off my first year since I changed my degree last year.

Re: moderators?

I'll humor you on this one, during the day i'm a warranty administrator, i do a lot of paperwork and handle all the warranties for the dealership. Everyone has their own sections but they're not limited to them on most occasions. I'm from central illinois. This is probably the only serious response you'll get.

Re: moderators?

I've been here since Feb '01, just a couple months after the site started. There were only a couple hundred registered members then. I was on all the time and was "respectable" enough (I assume!) to be offered a mod position by Igor (the site admin) in May '01. Was in high school then. Subsequently when through four years of college and am now working temporarily for a friend's business, recycling telecommunications stuff and other electronics while looking for a career.

I don't have anything I'm forced to do as a mod, but I have a duty to help keep the place in check. "Special powers" include the ability to edit, delete, or move posts, ban baddies, etc etc. I have banned before and have no qualms about doing so, but I usually prefer to help members instead.

Shit man, it's not like we kill people.

The first time you ban someone, that's when you get the thousand yard stare. It's indescribable. You're never the same after that.

Re: moderators?

I get paid to moderate on here.

Seriously.

Sure, a completely unrelated company is footing the bill for my time, but I'm still getting paid for it. Pay's pretty good to.

Every once in a while, I kinda slack off and end up doing some graphic design when I ought to be moderating, but I still get my job done.
