mirror temp/compass????
My buddy had a 2003 2500 HD Silv. and before he sold it, I removed the mirror that has the temp and compass. What do I need to get to get it working. I think I have to get a temp. gauge for it but I'm just more concerned about the compass. I'm sure I need a harness but where would I run it, hook it up, etc. thanks ~Firedogmatt

Re: mirror temp/compass????
Can't swear to the temp part of the mirror, but I'm pretty sure everything is self contained and all you need is the harness. The truck's electronics already reads ambient air temp to run itself correctly in different conditions. The compass part is all contained in the mirror assembly. You could check with the dealer on the harness.
I don't know what year your truck is dog, but if it's the same year, you may already have the right connector above your headliner. I added a auto dim compass only mirror from an older Olds to my '02. I got lucky when I dropped my overhead console. There was a blank plug up there that I fished through the front of the headliner and it plugged right into the mirror. The compass took a couple days to calibrate correctly. I know on the older Oldsmobiles, you had to drive around in a tight circle to calibrate the compass assembly.

Re: mirror temp/compass????
I did this one a while back to my '01. The wire harness was tucked up into the headliner near the mirror and I just plugged it in. That should power up the mirror. Everything for the compass is already inside the mirror. As for the temp, if you don't already have a temp sensor mounted in front of the radiator, you'll have to install one and wire it up. The whole job took me about 30 minutes. Got a sensor on ebay for about ten bucks. Do a search on this forum for more detailed instructions.
Good luck. |

As far as a plug being present on a truck without the option, it is usually cheaper for the factory to put the same harness up there that includes the un-needed plug than to mess with different harnesses for different options.
