Re: ecm location

I assume you mean the ECU? I'm not sure where it is in a 2001, but in most Sentras it's underneath the center console(to the right of the pedals), or underneath the driver's seat near the door.

Re: ecm location

What does it feel like? If you've changed your plugs recently, I'll bet you $100 it's a fuel injector.

Re: ecm location

Yes it doesn't even start .Idid found the ecu ,it's not located in a center console ,after i ripped console out all i found was a airbag control unit.ECU is located under the hood on the passanger side behind the strut tower in a fire wall ,it's a big black box , and ecu is inside that box . It must be bad ,cause with this thing pluged or unpluged no difference car still acting the same, will try to find replacemant .Any info where to look for it would be apreciated.

Re: ecm location

have you had the recalls done on the cam and crank sensors? there are other recalls as well. gonna have to go to dealer or call nissan customer service to check on recalls. i've seen the word "stealership" all over this site. ask yourself who knows this car better? someone whoi works on them everyday or this guy Fugiot, or I-D-I-O-T, who is obviously guessing at what may be wrong. its not uncommon for an ecm to crap out in these cars. depending on mileage it may still be covered under warranty. good luck.

First of all, most dealerships are "stealerships", they charge outrageous prices for any amount of labor. I'm sorry but paying a guy that knows a little bit more about cars than me $60 dollars an hour is insane. A doctor with a 7 year degree I'll pay $60 an hour, not some slob that hooks it up to a diagnostics and charges 75 bucks and to tell you whats wrong before they fix it. I would go to a private mechanic that will stand behind their work than a dealership any day of the week. And this is how people learn how to work on their own cars, before I started reading forums I could change the oil and plugs, and thats it. I payed a dealership 400 bucks to replace my starter, only to have it go bad 6 months later, which I then replaced for 60 dollars in an hour. Now I have replaced a clutch, a transmission, a fuel pump, a distributor, and a new front seal. Taking that to a dealership would have cost me and the people I helped thousands. If you don't like the fact we hate dealerships for this reason, and the fact we help each other with questions and answers, then get off this site.

Wow, what a friendly comment. Of course I was guessing. What the hell else am I supposed to do on a forum with 3 lines of text to go off of? If he asked on a forum, he's gonna get forum guesses.

Re: ecm location

maybe a bit harsh. but my point is that not all dealerships are the same. some of us take pride in our work and dont rip people off. i often help people out and dont charge what i could get away with because lots of times they've been to an independent to only pay to have their car hacked up and still not fixed. then they pay me less money to me to have it fixed right. nothing beats training and experience which shadetree wrenches usually dont have. the dealer in your area may not have a good rep, but have you tried them? hell, ask them who is the most certified? do you have a master tech? most of the problems that people start replaceing parts to try and fix, i can tell you whats wrong just by hearing the symtoms. SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA PAY A MAN FOR WHAT HE KNOWS, NOT WHAT HE DOES! just like a doctor or lawyer. in my area the independent shops charge just as much an hour as we do. bad experiences happen everywhere, nobody's perfect. guessing at what may be wrong can cost just as much when you start buying parts than having someone who knows what their doing fix it right the first time, not to mention the time and aggrivation when your car is collecting dust. my words may have offended you, but its a two way street.

Re: ecm location

Well, also, I never once said anything bad about dealerships. If you can find one post where I say something even slightly negative about dealerships, I'll eat my words.

Honestly, I disagree with most everyone on this forum about dealerships. But, I just figured I got lucky with the Tynan's Nissan dealership in my city. They are incredibly easy to deal with, cheap, and do any work I ask of them. They've even installed an SR20VE into my friend's 200SX for $900. I couldn't even get a deal like that at a small tuning shop that specializes in Nissans.

Re: ecm location

haha joker i said stealership because they are. i have friends who work at them and they just have ridiculous policies about shit, and overcharge everything. and because politics run the shop, bad mechanics dont always get filtered out like in a private shop. im not saying all are like this, im just saying that you pay TONS extra for sometimes bad work, sometimes better work. oh and theres no dealer anywhere around MN who charges as low as 60$hr...im talking over 100$/hr minimum.

how about you not come on teh forum acting like the e-thug you obviously think you are and realize that some people have different experiences and opinions than you.

all of 11 posts and you think you can lecture me?
begone while you still have your dignity

and as far as the topic...
get an ECU from a parts store or junkyard or something, that way you can afford to do something else if that doesnt fix it. dont spend 800 bucks at a STEALERSHIP just to find its something else.
