Any cars with similar parts to skyline?
Are there any cars ( sold anywhere in the world) that share any major parts with the r32, r33 or r34 (gtr) skylines?
The way I see it, if a skyline had another car's suspension, chassis, engine, transmission, or any major component, it would no longer be considered by customs and would become a kit car. This way importing it would not be a problem as long as it was in pieces and would not be as risky as simply importing a complete dissassembled skyline since the customs guys would not view it as trying to get around the law but rather as a genuine attempt to build a custom car from pieces. Of course this would only work if the other car's part(s) were identical or similar to the point of being swappable without any compromise in performance. It would probably also help if these parts came from us spec cars. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, experiences? Did nissan design every part of the skyline to be just for the skyline? Thanks |

Re: Any cars with similar parts to skyline?
I think they compare it to the 300zx and Fairlady Z on the NHSTA site but even dissasembled if all the pieces are their it is considered to be a complete car for importation purposes so your still boned unless you can get the motor shipped to your house and the car shipped to a harbor where you can pick it later.

Re: Any cars with similar parts to skyline?
Ok, let's piece together a gtr skyline (1989-2001 models) by each posting a part from another car.
I'll go first, Engine- rb30 from commodore (similar enough after converting to turbo), would fit in r32, r33 and r34 Anyone else? |

I suppose you could get a GTR front clip pretty easy.

Re: Any cars with similar parts to skyline?
But a GTR clip would be from a skyline, therefore wouldn't work for my diabolical scheme.
By the way, SilentNight, thanks for responding to my question. I guess since there aren't many skylines in the states, the US forums are pretty slow. |

Re: Any cars with similar parts to skyline?
I don't think any other cars actually share the Skyline body so you'd almost have to buy a Skyline shell inorder to make it look like a Skyline. But other than that I heard that Bluebird parts are used on converted Skylines so you might want to look into that.

Re: Any cars with similar parts to skyline?
im in orlando and theres this nice 240sx wit a r33 converision. the only thing is that if he wanted to go further he put a r33 rear end and bumper and rear quarter panels on it. but i think the 240sx 96 is a good r33 conversion car. but can u really get a shell to the states and put a rb26dett or a rb20 or a sr20det in it??
