2002 Taurus SES electrical

Recently I have noticed flucuations in my lights. They seem to "hiccup" and fade every once in a while for just a split second. I have also notice that my idiot lights for fuel and abs will come on for a second and then go off.

Any ideas of what is going on? I am going to start with just cleaning my battery terminals.

Re: 2002 Taurus SES electrical

Is it possible that you are noticing the lights flicker when the A/C compressor kicks in? Are you using the A/C or defroster when it occurs (defrost also uses the A/C)?

With the fuel and ABS idiot lights coming on, it does sound like you have an electrical issue somewhere. If it were just the ABS light, I'd suspect either dirty cables (as you mention), a bad connection, or a weak battery and/or charging system. The ABS computer will set a code if the electrical system voltage is too low. However, I don't think there is anything in the circuit for the low fuel light that would cause that light to go on.

Start with cleaning the cables and see what happens.

i believe that there is a recall on the light dimmer on that model. i would check that out also because that could be the problem it would explain the random flashing of the lights. If that is the problem any ford dealership should fix for no charge because of the recall.
