87 New Yorker pre purchase: opinions?

I am looking at a cheap car for my daughter, and a local dealer is selling an 87 New Yorker for around a grand. It has the 4cyl turbo engine and all the toys including "rich corinthian leather (Ricardo Montalban voice-over please)" and the radio with removable face plate, talking warning system, climate control, etc. I was wondering if the engine/tranny is famous for being a hunk of junk or anything like that. what should I look for in the car? I believe it has 115K on it. I test drove it and it seemed to run okay, but it didn't seem like I was getting much of a turbo "boost". Anything you can help me with would be cool. thanks
