Temp sending unit on 3100

Lately I've noticed the temp gauge reads much lower than it usually does (1/4mark) and my gas mileage has dropped tremendously. The engine warms up normally with plenty of heat from the heater core. Does the computer adjust fuel according to the temperature sending unit reading? I also notice the radiator fan not coming on so I'm thinking I need a new temp sending unit.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Might check your thermostat to be sure it is not stuck open, or partially open, but yes, your computer controls the amount of fuel by monitoring the temp. If it is running colder or the computer thinks it is colder your milage will go down the toilet in a hurry. Check the thermostat first though, mine just did this not too long ago on my Blazer.

Thanks jsgold, I thought so. The T-stat is brand new so I know that's not the problem. I will do some voltage readings to check if that's the right value for the actual temperature.
