2000 intrigue A/C clutch bearing removal

I have a 2000 olds intrigue with the 3.5 and my A/C clutch bearing is making noise. All the manuals I have a vailable say that the nut holding the plate on is a 13mm. The actual nut is round with one notch cut into it. I can't find the proper tool to fix this. HELP.

Re: 2000 intrigue A/C clutch bearing removal

after looking closer, it turns out that the "Nut" I was talking about was actually part of the shaft, making it a stud. It has threads at the end, but has a smooth part before this part. the little notch is a keyway that a shearkey is inserted in. I wasn't able to get it out.

Dealership typically just replaces the compressor, and didn't know what I was talking about.

I eventually had to bite the bulelt and buy a reman compressor. Sucks because they actually make a servicable compressor. Too bad I don't have one.

Re: 2000 intrigue A/C clutch bearing removal

I never re-bearing an A/C compressor because usually the "nose" where the bearing rides is cracked/broke off/soon-to-be.. I hit a salvage yard n got one for $80 w/ 6 mo. warranty for my monte...couldn't pass that up.

Re: 2000 intrigue A/C clutch bearing removal

Are you wanting to rebuild the compressor? Most manuals you buy leave out most of the A/C system, because your supposed to be certified to mess with it. Can't have all these people draining their freon into the atmosphere...
