O Rings

I am considering buying a montero or montero sport. How often do these
o rings that I keep reading about have to be replaced? Is the o ring problem both models or just the sport?

It's not the O rings that need to be replaced. It's the valve guide seals. Every 60-100k seems to be the magic mileage. Usually 60k.

Supposedly the newer engines have it fixed but that's not something I'd bet on.

Not a serious problem IMHO but more of an annoyance since you will burn more oil than usual but if you're on top of vehicle maintenance and check your oil every 1000 miles or so, you should be fine.

HTH.

Re: O Rings

I just burried a 99 trooper b/c of excessive oil burn, I was burning about 1qt per 500 miles. I assume the oil consumption on these engines is nothing like that.

Shouldn't be that bad & if it is, it will probably be caused by an oil leak somewhere else versus the valve guide seals.
