Air Suspension

Hey
I dont know a whole lot about suspension, upgrades, and the specifications for our cars. But i was wondering if its possible to put an air ride suspension into an AWD. I would like to be able to adjust my suspension in the car from stiff to softer. But i would also like to lower the car an inch or so. Yes i know i can put new shocks and springs in it that will lower the car and stiffen it. But are there air shocks out there that you can control and lower the cars ride hight and stiffness? Any info would be great! Thanks

I would not recommend adjustable suspension, unless you are a die hard track guy or you have a crazy modified show car. I've heard air suspension rides like hell. You could get coil overs, but I wouldnt suggest it. Everytime you adjust it, it throws your alignment off so you either get fucked on alignment costs or your tires will prematurely/unevenly wear. How far would you like to drop? Eibach Sportlines are ~2" and the Pro Kit is like ~1.25 IIRC, I would go with one of those paired up with KYB AGX's, Koni Yellows, or Tokico Illuminas.

If you care...

The most popular in-car adjustable suspension on DSMs is Tein's EDFC. It reduces shock travel, which is very bad. It also costs a grand. It's a rice mod. Where's my flame suit?

Koni Yellows are the high performance and comfy way to lower your car. A lower ride doesn't necessarily mean a stiffer ride. It depends on whether you're fucking with the sprung or unsprung weight of the car, and only Koni allows the adjustments necessary for DSMs, until you talk about higher dollar coilovers. Konis are six hundred dollars. The good news is that they won't need to be adjusted, really.

Or you can get new code AGXs or Illuminas and put them on the "soft" setting for a comfy ride on a lowered car. I think they're both on-car adjustable, but I don't remember. I've posted about it before if you search. These run 200-300 dollars. Not high performance.

Cliff's Notes:
Buy Tein EDFC if you don't care about performance. Expensive.

Buy Konis for a soft ride that is also a performance ride. Moderate.

Buy new code AGX's or Illuminas for a soft ride that isn't a performance ride. You can still be lowered. Cheap. *


*Or your AGX/Illuminas can be performance oriented and sacrifice their ride. With their limited adjustability it's one or the other.

air on a GSX would be really tough on the CV's, unless you only slammed it while parked.

i thought of putting air-ride on my 95 awd talon but there aren't any manufacturers out there that sell a kit for the awd, just the fwd. i wanted to have it slammed while parked but then just a normal lowered driveable height while moving. i looked around for months but couldn't find really anything reputable, you can try on your own if you like. i e-mailed Air Ride Technologies several times but they never e-mailed me back. let us know if you find anything.

Thanks, Yeah thats what i was a slammed car while parked, and a low car while driving, with a bit better handleing than stock suspension. Ill keep looking into it, but thanks for the info everyone!
