Airbag light flashing

95 E-250 airbag light is flashing 5 times then pauses, and flashes once. It then repeats this signal. Code? If so, does anybody have the answer? Thanks. Shaun

Re: Airbag light flashing

The most common issue when this is the case is that the "clockspring" needs replaced. This is basically a small, metal ring that is located inside the steering column, just beyond the steering wheel. This ring acts as an electrical conduit allowing current to reach the controls on the wheel (airbag, horn, cruise control) while the steering wheel moves.

Replacing it is no small task. My advice is to have a dealer or shop do the repair, as the airbag in Ford Econolines and E-Series vans are known to spontaneously blast out, and that can cause serious injury.

It's an under 100 dollar repair.
