calibrate overhead fuel computer '99
My fuel mielage computer in overhead console is consistantly off by about 10%. It reads exact for miles, but the gallons is always off too.
Is there a way to calibrate the fuel used? It throws the mpg offf as well. thanks |

I believe there was a thread about mileage readings a couple of months back and the computer seemed to be a bit high by about 5-10%. Take Care,

I ran out of gas in my 99 venture, it still told me I had 42 miles left

Re: calibrate overhead fuel computer '99
Mine ran out at 37 miles. It always shows 22 mpg average, but the actual is 20 mpg. The gallons is also 10% off.

Re: calibrate overhead fuel computer '99
Current fuel economy, trip fuel economy, and fuel used is determined by injector duty cycle. Remaining fuel is determined by the fuel level sending unit. Just due to manufacturing variances, I'd expect some give in the numbers. 40 miles when it really was empty would seem to be a little on the high side, but knowing the shape of the tank, I could see how that amount of error I guess.
That being said, I would never run the tank that low on purpose. The pump is in tank and relies on the fuel to cool it. When you run the tank empty, it allows the pump to possibly overheat.

Re: calibrate overhead fuel computer '99
When we first had our '99, my wife ran out of gas. She stated that the fuel tank light was on for a bit and when she checked the overhead consol, the miles to empty still showed around 40. I have always filled the tamk as SOON as the fuel gauge light shows up on the dash.
On another note, the fuel pump was replaced last year. Since then the trip computer seems to state incorrectly the total miles available on the full tank. Probably something to do with the unit calibration. I just make sure to keep the van filled up. |

Re: calibrate overhead fuel computer '99
My fuel low light comes on at around 100 miles to go and runs out at 40 miles.
(I did this on purpose because I had to know where it ran out.) Actual 60 and 0 right? The computer seems to figure the total miles available by the current averge mpg and that "injector duty cycle" thingy. It is always off the same amount and it looks they are all the same way. Thanks for the info friends. |
