S-10 Problem. Won't start all the time.
Hey Folks,
Have a 1992 S-10 4.3. Replaced the fuel pump and checked for arcing around the distributor. All good. When I go to start, it turns but won't start. Happens occasionally. Not all the time. In the morning is fine, get off work and it starts. Driving down the road, come to a stop in drive......shuts off.... Won't start again. Today, has been starting all day. Any thoughts on this??? My 93 did this on and off for over a year. Finally left me stuck in traffic and a hefty $70 tow bill to go three blocks. It started shortly thereafter... I had two rebuilt distributors in it before I finally got peeved and rebuilt it myself..New ECM and pick-up coil. It's been fine ever since...

Maybe I typed the wrong thing ...I should have typed Ignition control Module or ICM....ECM I guess is the computer...anyhow, the ICM is the black box under the distributor cap that the harnesses plug into. It's about $30 give or take and the pickup coil is about $10. Make sure to put on the grease insulator that comes with the ICM. It goes under the ICM on the metal plate of the distributor. It diffuses the heat evidently which can cause ICM failure. |
